Department of Medical Imaging, Nanjing General Hospital of People's Liberation Army (also known as Jinling Hospital) is the first batch of the national clinical key speciaty military construction project unit, and ranked 8th in the country's best radiology specialist in 2016.

The directory of the department, Guanming Lu, has been chosen as the vice chairman of the Chinese Radiological Society due to its advanced technology and outstanding achievement in the related field. The equipments in this department are also relatively advanced, which include 2 dual-source CT and 4 multi-row CT, 5 high-field MR, 4 DSA and high-end PACS.

The department acts as teaching hospital for graduate students of Nanjing University, Southern Medical University and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Besides, It has undertaken various national major projects in the past five years, including the National 973 Program, the National Key Research and Development Program, and its grants was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (including the National Science Fund for excellent Young Scholars, Key program, Major program and the Projects of International Cooperation and Exchanges). As the first research unit in the CT diagnosis of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, the department won the second prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of China Medical Science and Technology Award, and the first prize of Jiangsu Medical Science.
